Can coffee cause diarrhea on
an empty stomach?
It’s a myth . . .
No, there is no correlation between coffee and stomach and digestive issues. It may stimulate the digestive system, or others may react to added dairy products or artificial sweeteners.
Coffee may actually protect people from developing some forms of inflammatory bowel disease that can cause diarrhea.
To date there’s little scientific evidence that suggests drinking coffee on an empty stomach is harmful. Could be that coffee’s bitterness stimulates the production of stomach acid.
Morning coffee fix is a ritual for many of us. However, if you’re experiencing digestive issues when drinking coffee on an empty stomach, try having it with food instead.
If you have consumed coffee on an empty stomach for years and felt completely fine, then, by all means, continue drinking!
However, if your stomach is Sensitive To Coffee’s Acids, continue reading about what you can do about them.
Purchase stomach-friendly, low-acidity coffee beans that are lower on the acidity scale. Coffees grown at low altitudes typically have lower acid levels.
Brewing coffee in cold water (instead of hot water like normal) reduces the acid levels of the final drink by as much as 66%.
Once you’ve brewed the concentrate, you can pour hot water to enjoy a hot mug like normal.
