Youngsters do not like tea
A study conducted by Brooke Bond Tea Council across 12 cities in India shows that 77% of the people believes that tea is an unhealthy drink that causes acidity and nausea.
This is interesting if you note that India is a tea drinking country. If this is the mindset of a tea drinking country, what about other countries.
The fact is, coffee drinking has evolved to become more than a drink, it is an experience and a culture.
You do not go to starbucks for a coffee, you go there for the starbucks experience. You do not buy and drink nespresso, you drink it to feel sophisticated and like "George Clooney".
Can you remember about a tea advertisement or a very strong tea positioning.
This might be the reason why folks in India have the thought that Tea is not healthy and coffee is better. The fact is coffee is simply better at marketing.
Unilever research center feedback that tea is actually a hydrating drink, has only one third of caffeine than coffee and has flavonoids which is good for the heart.
This might be true and good.
But, the next time you go to starbucks, you would still order that coffee and chill out there for a while. This is the power of a strong communication program...
