Starting a coffee shop?: Free Cafe Setup cost Calculator
Fat Cat Ice Cream bar is a nice and cozy ice cream parlour located in a quieter part of Bedok. Away from the bustling Bedok Interchange, Fat Cat is a 5 minutes walk from Bedok MRT Station. The ice cream bar stands out with its’ gleaming glass panels and lighted up sign. We arrived at the cafe a little past 7 and it was almost empty. However, the place wasn’t too big and it started to fill up fast around 8pm. By 8.30pm, a queue had started to form outside the shop.
The staff were friendly and the ambience was soft and relaxing. The cleaning crew were also quick to clear up the tables. If you’re thirsty, this ice cream bar provides free flow of water.
We ordered 2 plates of Gourmet Waffles (Charcoal Waffles@ $6.00 each) with 4 scoops of ice cream (Pistachio, Grapefruit Campari Sorbet, Earl Grey Lavender, Watermelon Soju Sorbet@ $4.50 each) from a selection of 17 choices. On top of that, we added two servings of Salted Egg Yolk Sauce ($1.00 each) for each waffle.
The Charcoal Waffle was just right, not too light and it was slightly crispy. The Pistachio had a rich nutty taste. It’s suitable for nut lovers out there. The Grapefruit Campari Sorbet was one of the alcoholic choices available. With an initial sour and then bitter aftertaste, the strong citrusy flavor will definitely jolt your taste buds. Our third choice was the Earl Grey Lavender. It was very light and aromatic with a delicate aftertaste. The alcoholic Watermelon Soju Sorbet was refreshing, sweet and gave an authentic fruity taste. However there wasn’t enough soju in it. Lastly, the Salted Egg Yolk Sauce was pretty mild, but it added a salty element to the waffles, completing the whole waffle experience.
One more flavor worth trying is the butter beer. They did not have enough to make one scoop but we did managed to try some.
Overall, Fat Cat Ice Cream Bar is definitely a café which I would love to come back for more. Other than the slightly longer waiting time for the waffles, the ice cream was great.
