Not a new kid in town anymore, Jimmy Monkey was established some years back by Michael, an Australian.

Situated at One-North Residence, it’s kind of sandwiched between One-North and Buona Vista MRT stations. Jimmy Monkey is situated in a serene and peaceful neighbourhood, away from the busy roads. Drop by here someday and you will get what I mean.

When I was there, I was lost for a moment as there was 'Jimmy Monkey' as well as 'Jimmy Monkey too'. I didn't know which the real Jimmy Monkey was! And they were just directly opposite each other. So I decided to go with my instinct and headed for 'Jimmy Monkey'. Upon checking with the staff, 'Jimmy Monkey too' was actually an extension. But if you want more hot food, then you should be in 'Jimmy Monkey' as ‘Jimmy Monkey too' serves only cakes, sandwiches and coffee.

As I stepped into Jimmy Monkey, the first thing that came to my mind was "This place looks cool!” I loved the vibe there. Unlike most cafes which gave a warm and homely feel, Jimmy Monkey was the exact opposite. It was dark and funky, with dim lightings and concrete walls. Almost like an old unwanted warehouse but a cooler version.

The items in the menu were all given quirky names as well, so it’s kind of interesting as I read through. I had their 'Pork slide me a river' ($16), which was actually a pulled pork burger served with potato salad and mesclun mix. The skin of the bread was crisp when served, however it got soaked by the sauce as I ate the salads first. As for the pulled pork, it had a slight tinge of sweetness though I would have preferred it with a stronger peppery taste. Nevertheless, it was still a good burger!

I decided to visit their extension next. There's a vast difference between 'Jimmy Monkey too' and 'Jimmy Monkey' in terms of interior. 'Jimmy Monkey too' is bright and white with a smaller seating capacity.
