Starting a coffee shop?: Free Cafe Setup cost Calculator
From all-day snacks and affordable brunch fare to their carefully crafted coffee and serving dinner meals with handmade desserts, Lola’s has a steady stream of customers strolling in all day. The incessant buzz of energy at Lola's Cafe helps to keep the whole atmosphere lively. With it’s raw concrete and striking frames displayed irregularly across the cafe, the space seems to exude an authority in structure, no frills or fancy, not quite like the usual cafes which are usually warm in invitation and ambience. Yet it is a note-worthy cafe to mention for it's reasonable pricing, good food and easy accessibility along Simon Road, a stone's throw away from Kovan MRT station.
With a generous portion of strawberries at the top, a combination of pistachio cream, strawberries glazed with lemon confit, and pieces of pistachios sprinkled on the serving plate, Strawberry Pistachio Tart ($6.50) was fantastic! There was enough pistachio taste and the cream was subtly delicious. The well mixed crumbs and crust were just right and not too hard, which holds the entire delicate pistachio concoction firmly together on the inside.
The hummingbird cake ($7) was delicious too, with the cream cheese frosting, pineapple chunks, banana and a dash of cinnamon all in one serve. The texture of the cake was nice and fluffy, dry yet with a tinge of moisture in the cake. It’s tasty enough to be eaten on its own but the taste was very much enchanced with the cream cheese frosting.
Polishing the above off with a cup of warm piccolo ($4) summed up my delightful experience at Lola’s. This is a café that I will recommend for desserts. I have to come back and try some of the hot food on the menu though.
